#youtubes algorithm is so shit

I got some youtube short talking about how a guy at Obsidian went on a "racist rant" and oh it was soooo awful, and I was like oh damn that sucks, I like their games and that seems out of character for that company and then I checked and this is what the guy said:

Lmao, I should have known because it was a youtube short by a literal crusty white guy, but man crusty white guys are the most sensitive snowflakes on the plant.

YouTube is so damn biased towards alpha male content I keep getting it recommended to me even though I click "not interested" every single time I see this shit

I was wondering what the actual fuck, why am I getting it if it's nowhere close to what I usually watch and I do an extra step of saying "not interested" when I see it

I have a theory why

I have gender set to male in my profile

YouTube might be rigged in such an absolutely fucked up way based on this profile setting alone

If anyone here use YouTube a lot from a profile with gender set to male, does it happen to you as well?

Hey Tumblr (and subsequently, all other social media while we're at it), I don't want to see these "recommended" posts "for you" posts or "based on your interests" posts or whatever the fuck. I want to see posts from people I FOLLOW.

I had no problem finding new blogs to follow on my own before the "for you" and "recommended" posts became a thing. I would read additions to reblogs, I would go to the tag page of whatever I'm interested in finding blogs to follow about (like I'd go to the Destiel tag, for example, and read around for interesting posts and then check out those blogs and decide if I want to hit "follow"). That's how I decided if I wanted to follow someone or not.

Just because I liked a post about... say, a political figure or a dog or whatever, doesn't mean I want to see politics crap or cute dogs all over the place as I scroll just because I liked that one post.

So I tend to put on a youtube video most nights to fall asleep to (laptop on a shutdown timer.) And lately, my recommendations are a lot of videogame speedruns or videogame hidden facts.

Last night I pulled up youtube and got a "I played the 10 worst wii games ever" kind of video. ~30 minutes long. Fair enough! Show me the terrible wii games.

I'm paying attention for the beginning, since hey I'm still awake. And maybe like, 6 minutes into the video the guy starts going into heavy detail about how to pirate and copy wii games.

And I'm like, shit, bold, considering this video has 500,000 views. Bravo and all that.

The terrible wii games go on. I fall asleep.

I wake up to the sound of like... mechanical grinding?

Look at the laptop. There's a guy in a hazmat suit mixing dangerous chemicals, going "hey don't mix these dangerous chemicals."

I'm like, "Oh, the video ended. And the algorithm put me on... chemical mixing Youtube I guess."

I look at the video Title. "I Played The Worst Wii Games Ever Made"

....Oh.

It's still the video.

So surely he is... mixing chemicals to clean off an unplayable wii disk? Trying to touch up the lone copy of some forgotten game bought off ebay?

No...

He's just.

Mixing chemicals.

I hover over the video sections.

The 10 worst wii game sections have ended. He played them all.

The last 10 minutes is just dedicated to... him in a hazmat suit mixing dangerous chemicals.

I fall back asleep.

One reason I like using tumblr is because the tags actually work. Instagram and tictok are miserable to look for specific stuff on, god even YouTube is getting worse about this

I was just on tictok and it doesn’t matter what the fuck I search or what tags I scroll it starts showing me random shit after like three videos. If I wanted to scroll the fucking fyp I would do that so whyyyyy dose it insist on making every single thing connected to the fucking algorithm

Instagram is just as bad although I will admit people are more prone to putting random tags on posts to try to get more likes or whatever. YouTube seems to be slowly showing me more random videos I’ve already watched when searching tho this isn’t nearly as bad.

TikTok is by far the worst about this and it is sooo annoying. I’m just trying to look at fan works for a specific fandom stop showing me other stuff!!!
